Abstract:
Fluorescent carbon quantum dots have gained much attention owing to their low-cost, biocompatibility, photostability, and low toxicity. The functionalization and surface passivation leads to the tuning of optical properties of carbon quantum dots (CQDs).Due to their desirable properties, they can be used in a plethora of applications.Top-down and Bottom-up are the two common broad approaches for the synthesis of CQDs.The synthesis method using green precursors can be attained using various methods like solvothermal/hydrothermal, microwave-assisted polymerization, and pyrolysis. The current chapter comprehensively discussed the applications of CQDs in the detection of metal ions.
