Dr. Ashek Elahi Noor is an Assistant Professor cum Dental Public Health Educator in the Department of Dental Public Health in the Sapporo Dental College & Hospital, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He has completed Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) under the University of Dhaka in 2007. After completion of internshipfrom this Institution in March 2009, he has been appointed as a Lecturer cum Medical Officer in the department of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery. Then he has been transferred from the dept. of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery to Dental Public Health as a Lecturer from 2013to 2016.After then he has been promoted as an Assistant Professor cum Dental Public Health Educator in the Dental Public health department in this institution to till date. During his study in Dentistry, he has been keen to study further in Public Health. He has to deal with many patients having diagnosed with oral cancer and other Oro-facial infection during his working schedule as a Lecturer in the outpatient department (OPD). Among them most of the patients having the history of taking cigarette andusing different smokeless tobacco products which was further diagnosed with Oral Cancer. Unfortunately, their prognosis is very poor after treatment which felt him in deep thought and sorrow for their family member. By watching this scenario from time to time, he wishes to fulfill his dream and determined to do post graduation to manage them in a standard way or does more and more research work in a proper way so that their further suffering can be limited. Soon after, hesuccessfully completed Master of Public Health (MPH) from NIPSOM under BSMMU in 2012. Surprisingly, his final dissertation title in MPH course was “smokeless tobacco uses among the women in old Dhaka” which also matched the field of his future study. Furthermore, he also performs some voluntary dental camp in different rural and urban area in Bangladesh. He also participates as a dental camp member and supporter – “model project for an improvement on oral health care in rural area in Bangladesh organized by JICA in 2011-2013 sessions. It was known to us that prevention is better than cure. So, it is necessary to do research about what caused the problem whether the solution is effective but also realistic and achievable manner. It is believable that his background and work experience in this field is a major advantage as a Dental Public Health Researcher. Finally, he achieved Fellowship of the Royal Society for Public Health (FRSPH) from the Royal Society for Public Health (RSPH), England in 2020.
