Taking up research in biology as a career has always been my dream; I did my best to pass the courses in my major successfully and participated in several research projects. I have been awarded PhD from VIT University, Vellore, India. Fundamentally, Microbiology has always been my favorite subject right from my school days. By the time I completed my bachelors in Microbiology. I was sure that I wanted to sculpt a career in Microbiology for myself. So, I continued with Applied Microbiology for my masters at Periyar University. During those years, I got an opportunity to take many advanced courses that included Cell Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Molecular biology etc. This inspired me to pursue my career in a subject that applied all the basic biological concepts for the benefit of the society and environment. I completed my M.Sc., (Applied Microbiology) with distinction with special award for merit. Later with the aim of continuing my research in the field of Microbiology I pursued my doctoral program from VIT University, India on “Bioremoval of chromium from tannery effluents using bacterial biofilms”. Our research project was granted financial aid by Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India and resulted in good impact papers in reputed journals, which I have included in my CV. During my research work, I got a good insight into molecular biology and biofilms. I have also got an opportunity to develop new methodologies for biofilm cultivation on laboratory conditions and learnt different techniques. I have also designed and fabricated a Biofilm based bioreactor for the pilot scale treatment of tannery effluent. I have continued my post-doctoral research in Food microbiology in Pondicherry University, and I have been awarded Young Scientist by DST, India during 2014. During which we have published many research articles and also file 3 Indian patents. Presently working as a Molecular Biology Scientist cum Technical Director of Molecular Biology laboratory, Department of Microbiology, Sri Lakshmi Narayana Institute of Medical Sciences, Puducherry, India. Here I am responsible for COVID-19 diagnosis by RT-PCR and related tests and also reporting the same to the authorities. I have ample experience in the area of Quorum sensing, Microbial diversity, Polyphasic Taxonomy of microorganisms, Biofilm cultivation, Microbial Technology, Metagenomics and Molecular biology.
